Stinging Insects

It’s an early night and a young couple are lying in bed, when both start to point out a humming sound. They each climb out of bed and scan the room for the hum. As they get closer to a corner of the room, the humming gets louder. Out of curiosity, a hand is placed on the wall, and there is a notable heat coming from the same corner.

Not sure what to do, the couple called Pest Stop. A technician was sent out and the young couple were informed that they had a wasp nest imbedded in their wall. If they had not called sooner, the nest would have broken through the wall. With an infant in the next room, this was quite a scare!

Stinging insects are a worrisome aspect to owning any property. 500,000 people are sent to the emergency room every year because of stinging insects. While wasps, hornets and bees are often a springtime concern, now is a good time to start looking for the signs, prevent any future infestations and eradicate or relocate any existing nests.

Wasp Nest Removal

Because the biggest reason insects like wasps, hornets and bees sting is to protect their nest, if you notice a nest, please do not try to remove it yourself. To address the nest, please call a pest professional to have them come and remove it. If an insect does take notice of you, do not swat at it as that can instigate their aggressive behavior. Slowly, get up and walk away. If you or a loved one do get stung, seek medical attention immediately.

Insect Infestation Prevention

When it comes to prevention, keep food and drink covered when eating outside. Consider using clear cups at any BBQ parties so that any hiding places are reduced to a minimum. Also consider serving food inside and saving the outside for eating. Additionally, make sure to clean up any spills.
