Wasps (Yellow Jackets)
Habitat
Wasps are social insects that live in nests of up to 600-800 workers. They build paper nests in holes under ground or in openings in the siding of your home, sometimes in the eaves. Unlike bees, wasps are able to sting repeatedly. The venom of the wasp contains a pheromone which acts as an alarm causing other wasps to become more aggressive when a wasp has stung something or has been killed. The barbs on a wasp sting are too small to catch in the skin. This is what allows the wasp to sting several times, and leave nothing behind at the sting site. One might think that they were attacked by many wasps but in fact only 5 or 6 actually did the stinging. Wasps become very aggressive when 'their' territory has been invaded. Sometimes wasps will simply 'bump' without actually stinging as a warning. You can observe this behavior in picnic areas where they are away from their nest.

Identification
Wasps have yellow heads with black caps, a black thorax with yellow on the sides, a yellow abdomen with black stripes, black antennas and yellow legs. There are many different species in the Northwest but we commonly know them as yellow jackets.
Treatment
Safe and Effective Pest Control
Chuck Sullivan's method of application and choice of products is safe for your family and pets but eliminates the bug problems.
We use synthetic pyrethroids, a botanical-based material derived from chrysanthemum flowers that works in the same way as our own pharmaceutical products, which are simply designed to speed up the body's metabolism. The formula applied to insects, being on a much smaller scale, will result in their metabolism increasing to the point of extermination.
You might call it... 'Bug-Speed'. To put it in perspective, for example, flea control products are made from synthetic pyrethroids and are designed to be placed directly on the pet's skin. The dog or cat is too large to be affected by the material, but is destructive to the much smaller flea.
Therefore, when applied by a trained exterminator, pyrethroids are safe for human and pet health as well as the environment as they are used in very small doses and often diluted in water or oil. The formula breaks down in the environment, heat and sunlight speeding this process.
Chuck Sullivan Exterminators provides an All Pest Service Guarantee so you won't have to worry about wasps in your home or commercial building after treatment has been applied.
